AJP-Lung is very excited to welcome one of our newest associate editors to the team, Irina Petrache MD. She will help expand our scope to include more papers on COPD and emphysema.
Irina
Petrache is Calvin E. English Professor of Medicine, Biochemistry, and
Molecular Biology at Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Petrache
received her medical degree from the “Carol Davila” University of
Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania and received postgraduate
training in Internal Medicine at Saint Lukes/St Vincent Medical Center
affiliated with Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH; and in
Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins University.
Dr.
Petrache is a physician scientist whose laboratory investigates the
pathogenesis of and repair strategies for pulmonary emphysema and COPD.
Studies in the lab focus on the role of cell death in lung alveoli, the
significance of bioactive sphingolipids in lung responses to cigarette
smoke and the vascular protective effects of alpha one antitrypsin. Her
research group is also involved in collaborative work related to lung
regeneration and metabolomic and molecular phenotyping in COPD.
